Whoa whoa whoa the Sugars the Problem

Karin Michels, professor of the department of epidemiology at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, recently during a lecture stated, regardless of the advice peddled by unqualified and self-appointed online health gurus, consuming coconut oil carries a raft of health risks.

I have a few questions and statements to add as an unqualified rebuttal or counter to this statement. Dr. Karin Michels sites like most health professionals that coconut oil has a significant amount more saturated fat content than other oils such as olive oil which is higher in unsaturated fat. However the fact that a recent finding done by the New York Times exposed the sugar industries demonization of saturated fats. (https://www.nytimes.com/2016/09/13/well/eat/how-the-sugar-industry-shifted-blame-to-fat.html)

I will not bore you with the long story read it for yourself, however. It is safe to assume that the repercussive waves of the payoffs and lying done by certain scientist effects are still being taught as fact and truth. Now is this doctor someone with a hidden agenda no that’s not where I go to first, conspiracy is like below last resort. Now the online health guru I go to is on my favorite podcast a lot Dr. Rhonda Patrick. She isn’t some fake professional shes got the resume, I’m sighting her someone far smarter than myself. She stated in a video with Dr. Ron Krauss! “Dietary cholesterol has a negligible influence on heart disease risk. New video with Dr. Ron Krauss! https://t.co/8SuVGwObRX ” why is this?

I would say that because people don’t have or the findings neglected by the scientist approached by the sugar industry is hard to find or gone. The issue is or rather the behavior that increases your risk for heart disease, from a baseline zero not acknowledging any family history lack of physical or cardiovascular exercise. Starting from that baseline the issue is saturated fats combined with the American individual’s consumption of sugar the combination of that glucose to the saturated fats. Saturated fats inherently aren’t an issue further proved by qualified studies on the consumption of eggs with pre and post blood test to compare the levels of LDL. The people tested again because of conscious testing, nobody had cancer or are close to a century in age. Everyone tested either showed a zero change or a minuscule uptick in LDL. The saturated fat increase in the diets of these tested was increased but still fell below the levels of no return. Okay, I’m about to be very candid with everyone, the amount of coconut oil listed in the article on Dr. Karin Michels states that the consumption of coconut oil need to gain the benefits of the multi-chain triglycerides for metabolic boost and weight loss, you would need 10 tablespoons of coconut oil in comparison to the much less volume compared to 100 percent MCT oil. I sighted problem with this statement is island cultures eat enormous amounts of coconut daily or even weekly, what about these people who statistically are healthier by the by.

My issue is you will blow up every bathroom within 10 seconds of you before you reach the 3rd tablespoon folks. I’ve done the research on this boys and girls the body will not allow it, so cooking with it as a replacement to butter or lard ( which Dr. Karin Michels stated coconut oil was worse than lard, which again has been proven not to be bad unless combined with processed sugars). This is one person findings causing ripples on twitters and I’m a big proponent for cooking with coconut oil and consuming MCT oil from Onnit in large doses in my smoothies. Disclaimer here I do agree with Dr. Karin Michels about moderation, your body will show you your limits but I stress avoid that at all cost hot sweats and emptying your stomach for an hour isn’t fun. Extrapolating from there the major thing that needs to be addressed, don’t increase your saturated fat intake or rather don’t have an intake of saturated fat if you consume more than 20g I stay around 10g or less of processed sugar but eat ungodly amounts of fruits. I know fruit has sugar and is bad for keto etc, but I still sight show me a fat raw vegan and I’ll show you a liar. My levels are lower actually from when I started consuming coconut oil and MCT oil close to 3 years. That’s all take a listen to Dr. Rhonda Patricks Joe Rogan podcasts as well as her own…… a couple times……. with a notepad……and after a good nights sleep.

Whippin Hooks

Hitting a nasty left hook to the body doesn’t need to shake the earth you just need a touch folks. A old fact of striking be it Boxing, K-1, or Muay Thai the lead hook to the body is a tool that has put many a world champion on the canvas. Keeping it as tight as possible turning the hip over and digging the punch into the liver, head, or rib is the classic way and most tried and true. The less common or rather hardest to develop is a whipping lead hook, take a look at Floyd back when he was Pretty Boy, his left hook was and is fat free with zero slop in the movement. In mma one of tge best body lead hookers is Jorge Masvidal, kickboxing Neiky Holzken. All of them set up differently but motion remains the same generally a loose lead arm that becomes tense upon whip motion. (They arent tense before thriwing but at the very last instense and by increasing speed and observing the keverage oart of the arm as a tool the points of contact the front knuckles of the hand focus that power to the body.)

Now for a training tool go watch a Brendan Dorman video or check out Shannon Briggs, for training footage of complex skills observe heavyweights that are masters at it, simply because you can see all of their movements do to their mass. Aldos lead hook stopage was a harkening back to the days of his crazy boxing skills hopefully we get to see more of that style again soon.

Too Hot Too Cold just Right

What we have gathered from watching the experiment in the UFC’s 185 division is a lesson on someone that’s hit the Goldilocks zone and someone that’s just missed it. This is clear when you look at Robert Whittaker and Yoel Romero. Robert is a guy we can say is in the Goldilocks zone his training and skill with experience has hit a level where he is a concern for everyone in the division and you have to ask who can beat him. Yoel is not the opposite case but rather a case of it maybe too late.
Yoels international competition experience and experience on the mats and in grappling in general have made him a problem everywhere, Yoels striking or rather finding a style for his age and build was the hard part. The Cuban striking scientist in Florida have figured it out and you see the development from the Machida fight to now, the culmination of that development was seen in the Rockhold fight where Yoel used that Archie Moore style using his biceps to catch, selective strikes, and explosive parrys. The issue seems to be Yoel has just figured this out while he’s on the precipice of his body no longer being able to compete in the way he would like. When you juxtapose the two the skill can be seen as equal while the differences are seen in experience and the body’s abilities to function at the highest level for 5×5 in the UFC as well as the training leading up to said bout. It’s a recurring joke on JRE but father time is undefeated, Yoel is father times toughest fight in MMA history but the long the fight goes the more definitive the lose will be for Yoel. You can only accommodate loss of function be it for whatever reason from cardio, flexibility, etc for so long in MMA before the next young lion figures out there next year that experience can’t overcome. Does this mean Yoel should hang it up because he can’t beat Robert… obviously not (he said with a chuckle) it’s more so a look at the bouts on paper with a deep introspective look at the fighters involved.

I had a conversation with Brendan Dorman (from YouTube and Obviously Fight Talk) that along with Yoel seeming to just narrowly miss the mark he on a longevity standpoint is showing what the human capacity is, by that I mean he’s got fused discs in his neck and a lifetime of international highest level wrestling competition in the madhouse of Cuba. Yoel is a pioneer in that way, sometimes we needed to be reminded that the exception is obtainable but the price maybe a shorter window for success. When your window is post peak years of your physical capacity being an exception to the rule is a good thing to have but the skill and style has been built. So I say that to say I would love to see a guy like Woodley in his later years adopt this style, and we see him implementing it now. So that’s my take on Yoel and Roberts lessons to the world, if you need me I’ll be in my office writing and listening to the Powercast.

Big Dogs Don’t Attack Buses

29708262_226275188118805_7052035660911214592_n_1.gif

This was beyond childish, I cant see what Conor and his crew were thinking if this is retaliation for Khabib slapping Artem handle that with the said individual, besides that’s some Russian on Russian business. So what happened the gif above explains it, as reported on Twitter and through the MMA news train, the Mac Life production squad stormed the Barclays in Brooklyn as the fighters doing media bordered the busses back to the fighter’s hotel. Apparently, Micheal Chiesa has multiple gashes on his face so he won’t be cleared to fight obviously so that main card fight is out, Rose is pissed because she almost got hit by glass and an object so Danas on a mission to come her down to keep her on the card because without her this thing doesn’t sell like it would before. The videos show Conor was a very active participant fleeing the scene and attacking the bus. I don’t get what this would do other than keep your name in the press, but his name is already in the press its the second or third question all combat sports athletes get from BJJ to Boxing. Was this retaliation for the Artem Khabib thing, well then take the fight at 155 that was on the table. I’m just confused because this has never happened like this before now granted Pride FC was a madhouse at best this type of nonsense never happened in the wild west days so there a feather in the cap, the biggest shit show since UFC 200. If you wont to fight sign the damn bout agreement end of discussion, you don’t go to NY and disrespect the Barclays and then try to run away like this was some heist film. If this was some old skool gym war stuff I say we have Conor fight Till but that’s just me lol.

-Keep your head on straight

Find what’s useful

Expanded thoughts lead to nonsense and brilliant innovation, take a look at Pat and Rose. They literally as a couple live the thesis of MMA, it’s a Musashi, Bruce Lee, etc quote. Utilize what is useful and set aside the nonsense. You see this in the way Rose lives her life she gets rid of the crazy nonsense with Joanna she just didn’t entertain her stuff, she is still doing that now. Pat discussed this idea on the JRE and from looking at the video the proof is there. The drill focuses just from my eye as a coach on getting full extension, accuracy, and recovery from the shots thrown. Full extension on accurate punches is more difficult than it seems because the eyes and body have to react as one so tracking the target and then rotating through said target, but the target is traveling at a rate of speed making throwing with the full body behind the strike were the bulk of training is happening. Now recovery is not based on cardio it’s the recovery of the limb thrown back to the guard and while tracking the next target. I’m sure Pat is looking for these things off the top but he more than likely has other looks he gauging like speed on lateral foot work to and from as well as off angle.

Will this help in the fight, thats a bad question whether it helps in this fight is odd this will help in all fights. I through this drill into the spectrum of on the line between sport specific and developing pure athleticism. Rose is a explosive athlete with breakneck cardio, her athletic ability is damn near tied with her skill level. She is the closest to Mighty Mouse in that regard, it’s uncanny. Now will this help in the JJ rematch, yes because the most basic punches hit Joanna and forced her back, those being 123. The jab opened her up or rather showed Rose the needle hole in which to throw the 2 which cracked her and the straights logically opened the way for the lead 3 its know different from middleweight Roy Jones or young Mayweather in boxing thank Trevor Wittman for that added sauce. With better accuracy Rose should be able to deliver everyone of these shots with more power because tracking Joanna body is simple comparison to a tennis ball. Big object of mass moving at lesser rate of speed is easier locate. I think this is one of those drills that will be copied at every camp moving forward.

That versus sums up this KSI and Logan Paul freak show, although it isn’t a Japanese freak show this proves that there even levels to the freakshow ( oh how I miss Pride). Anyway, if your not a teenager on spring break asking me about this fight randomly at the gym or you don’t fall in that age bracket you probably only know about Logan Paul because of the controversy swirling he and his brother. Now I was like okay whatever but when the told me they were actually boxing and how the internet wants KSI to win I had to break the kid off with some knowledge, so I could get back to my workout (gym etiquette if a dude is smashing leg kicks while blasting Nipsey Hussle don’t interrupt him). Okay so to the people not familiar with fighting I will break down the two fighters like I usually do and present game plans and what will likely be the outcome of the fight. Something that needs to be stressed to the kids getting emotional invested is that this is a promotion and your being played that’s what this is and has always been dating back to Dempsey and Ali the GAME never changes, they want your money. So moving past promo fighting is about skill and execution of game plan then comes heart and character nowhere is karma in there. So for those paying to watch KSI give Logan Paul an ego check save your money your just making them richer, it’s a Mayweather promotional plan. Skill is the only thing that wins fights in the end.

So let’s start breaking these jokers down, let’s start with this guy KSI because it will be quick. KSI’s only experience in combat sports was that terrible novice boxing bout he had which skill wise was less than a joke in my opinion but then again I was raised in martial arts watching Rickson Renzo Sakuraba BJ Penn Floyd Mayweather tapes of Hagler and on and on so I’m a little biased you could say as well as trained. So KSI has little crossover experience in any other combat sport he’s much smaller in usable weight because looking at his figure when he gets in shape he shades a lot of excess weight. So what’s his saving grace if any, well he spends time at the Mayweather Boxing Club so he’s getting some of the best defensives and basic knowledge and game planning but to pull that style off takes hard work and dedication, believe that. If he isn’t blasting his cardio and explosive conditioning work nothing Jeff and Senior are teaching him will matter in the end.

So what’s his game plan well it’s the  basic small man game plan because he’s got no real experience so yeah stay away straight punches and move stay on the jab to enter body hooks and pivot out make it a cardio battle and when the gloves get heavy for him start targeting the head with straights instead of the body and stay moving. Simple enough but do I give him a chance….NOT AT ALL FAM.

So KSIs opponent is a homer for me do I like the guy, I don’t know him so I can only judge his actions and from what I could say we might not hang out but I won’t disparage his name based on past actions. Story or something about sinners throwing rocks or something or other. Anyway, Logan Paul was a top 5 state wrestler in OH-IO the state where we makem at BOY, okay I got my Ohio thing out. So he comes from one of the most successful wrestling states in a country that is always a contender for international wrestling. Guess what Logan Paul has a ton more combat sports experience in comparison to KSI for damn sure. So the argument the kid gave me was grappling doesn’t translate to striking or rather boxing, to which I say, Tyron Woodley, Hendricks, Mighty Mouse, Chad Mendes, Dominick Cruz, Stipe Miocic, Daniel Cormier, Jon Jones and that list goes on and on. We have run the experiment a gang of times and recently an elite grappler won a fight with his striking and it was tight like Jersey Shore Tshirt time tight his name is Garry Tonon gif below.

giphy

Okay, so what’s Logan’s game plan, because of his exploration into MMA as many grapplers have done he’s already more than halfway home add in that he’s a former wrestler he’s already in shape and is just shifting his training to prep. I would say for like a good three weeks just wrestle and there’s a reason I say that. Redevelop or brush up those explosive movements while building the VO2 max back up for the ring which is different than just running a couple miles. Logan needs to drop a few pounds as well so the wrestling room will do that and swimming and running will maintain his weight and fast twitch muscles weights maybe twice a week to sustain the power.

I’m not programming for him but he’s got to do to things cut down and develop an energy system he wasn’t used since high school so yeah there’s that. So what’s his game plan, well fight like GGG explode through the jab cut off the ring and walk KSI down with a jab and a straight off the center line inside stay heavy and pivot and body shot like your snapping the head down or about to catch a single from a double collar tie or clinch. From there it’s about effective punching maintaining his punch count and exploding with the 2 and 3 in the later rounds, but to start playing the GGG game plan jab and cut the ring off observe the movements and tendencies. Logan’s wrestling history lends itself better to developing actual footwork and it will be basic and purposeful not so much a deceptive thing but a means to an end.

Who wins is simple for me Logan is a -900 favourite for me simply because he has more applicable high-level combat experience plus he’s in better shape with less ground to cover to get back to combat shape. KSI has never been in high-level combat shape so getting there is walking through fire that Logans already traveled through to place fifth in my state in wrestling, which is no joke when you think of guys like Zack Snyder coming out of Ohio to The Ohio State University and winning the Olympics heavyweight wrestling gold medal while in college still so chew on that. Logans in better shape have more experience and is a better athlete there’s not much more to talk about. If you want someone’s ego checked an internet freakshow isn’t the avenue to do it in.

-So yeah miss me with the bullshit

Garry Tonon

giphy.gif

Garry Tonons is the hope of the BJJ based grappler or the newest glitch in the matrix I’m hoping for both folks both. Garry is a phenom grappler if you don’t know please do yourself a favour and watch the link here ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OJv01Wz3-L8 ). This was a master class in beginning striking levels you can cross compare Garry and Kron and you see how vast and calm Garry translated the similarities from how to move explosively and evasive with footwork from grappling. Now what Garry showed was sharp basics his straight punches were true and straight his timing for the hook was based on the GSP level change for the reaction and then strike. Evade to create space than close space faster than the opponent can react with 2 or 3 option don’t overload yourself overload their mind. The matrix that is MMA should be scrambling because the performance Garry put on is a roadmap to the needed level of striking you need to translate to MMA, not just footwork or touching shots but power and set up punches and kicks that you expect to see from your standard striker at any of the big Teams like ATT.

What I consider the basics, his hands are up he V Steps and mirrors to cut off the exist and cut off the ring. His jab was TRUE AS MATH, the kicks where chambered on the initial steps, patients was evident from the jump. Switch stepping to look at the angles and force a change from distance and not in the pocket where he can be hit, knee up foot flat to check kicks hands up elbow down to guard against small gloves not just an open palm to catch a fist which never works (SMALL GLOVES FOLKS THIS IS VALE TUDO). Lastly timing power, Garry has taken more grappling shots than most humans on this earth he knows how to explode and he translates that into a straight punch A to B is the quickest path and he set it up with a jab like a JOCK. This is very simple but its hard if you don’t have patients in the fire, people grappler or beginner whatever they lose their mind in the cage and the game plan and training goes out the door. Through Garry’s years of high level grappling experience against the killers at Renzos (Danaher DEATH SQUAD!!!) he stays calm under the most exhausting and fierce circumstances which makes MMA just a normal day in a somewhat different lane. I’m happy OneFC made this pick up and I can’t wait to see the growth to come.
